The sun-baked Alentejo occuppies nearly one-third of Portugal stretching from the Tagus river in the north to the Algarve in the south.
This region of Portugal has large farms in rolling countryside which stretch as far as the eye can see, and very little population. Long beaches and wide open plains with large farms many rearing fighting bulls. Hilltop towns, often with a castle that has been converted into a hotel in the Pousada group.
