Quinta Salvador do Mundo is situated just north of the junction of the highway crossing to the north of Lisbon in the direction of Sintra and the highway from the capital city north to Obidos and beyond. This makes the house a good location for those with a car wanting to visit these places and also the long, sandy Atlantic beaches.
Nearby is the old chapel of Salvador do Mundo, an example of Roman Gothic architecture. Also there is the 16th century church of Santo Quintino decorated with tiles of the 17th and 18th centuries, known in Portuguese as "azulejos".
It is not far from the Alqueidao Fortress, centre of the famous lines of Torres Vedras which was an important part of the defensive system during the Napoleonic invasions at the beginning of the 19th century.
Those interested in the Peninsular War have many other important places to visit in the area of Quinta do Salvador do Mundo. The Great Redoubt at Sobral and the former headquarters of Wellington and Beresford are minutes away.
Walking, cycling and horse riding can be arranged in the surrounding countryside.
You can practice nautical sports on the Lagoa de Obidos (Obidos Lagoon), visit the fortresses, go to the Convento de Mafra, Peniche, Obidos, Caldas da Rainha, you can even watch the work going on in the fields, especially the wine growing and join in the harvest parties.
Golf players have an excellent golf course at Praia d'El Rey Golf and Country Club - considered as one of the best golf courses in Portugal and Campo Real which is approximately 15 kms away from Quinta Salvador do Mundo.
Quinta Salvador do Mundo estate is located 35 kilometres away from Lisbon, with almost the whole journey being by modern motorway.
