This house has now been listed by the Portuguese Tourism Authorities as relevant to culture, history and architecture of the area.

On the northern bank of the river Ave, near the Peneda-Geres National Park, the village of Travassos became famous for its skilled goldsmiths.

Although the trade is now decreasing, many workshops still use the traditional methods.

About eight kilometres away is Povoa de Lanhoso, a small but very interesting town, with an 11th century castle overlooking the town.

The famous old cities of Braga and Guimaraes are half an hour away by car and are both worth visiting.

The other two are located in the old converted granary which is adjacent to the house and has views to the pool. They are twin bedded and have a mini-bar with fridge and kettle.

All bedrooms have television and modern decoration. The two bedrooms in the main house have en suite shower room with the others having en suite bathrooms.

Casa da Alfena has central heating and a fireplace in one of the living rooms. There is another lounge with cable TV and a games room.

The dining room has a table seating up to ten persons.

Here there is a traditional kitchen which has some self-catering facilities, including small fridge, dishwasher, two ring cooker, microwave, toaster, kettle and a table for up to eight persons. This kitchen is more suitable for preparing breakfast and light meals.

From here, a door leads on to a large balcony, supported by strong granite pillars, which has two tables and wooded chairs for seating up to eight persons.

There is another kitchen equipped with hob, oven, fridge, freezer, microwave and nearby outside grill.

Next to the kitchen, there is a laundry with a washing machine, spin dryer and iron.

In the swimming pool area, there are also two dressing rooms, with shower and toilet. There are sun loungers and a table tennis table.

The fruit trees and vineyards that give colour to the well maintained outside gardens offer pleasant shade during warmer months.

Casa de Alfena may be booked for a minimum of three nights.
