Casa do Castanheiro cottage Overview

The cottage stands alone within the landscaped grounds of the nearby Portuguese owner's house.
The houses are on a 4000 square metres well maintained garden. The extensive grounds feature many quiet areas in which to relax or read quietly to the sound of the nature. The estate is planted with olive trees, oranges and lemons and sweet chestnuts and a rose garden.
The cottage is completely private and extremely comfortable. It was recently renovated and decorated with taste being ideal for a family with small children.

Accommodation

There is a living / dining room with 2 sofas, fireplace and satellite TV. Dining table seating up to 6 persons. Doors open out to a private terrace and garden.
The kitchen is fully fitted including dishwasher and ironing facilities.
There is one bedroom with two single beds - one being a pull out bed and one double bedroom and adjacent full bathroom.
Both rooms offer views over the countryside.
(a) In the lower floor there is an additional double bedroom with living area and full equipped bathroom with shower. One double window open onto a terrace with hydrangeas sitting facilities and a sunshade umbrella.
The bedroom in the lower floor can be arranged to sleep 3 and can only be rented additionally to the accommodation in the cottage, upon request. It has a living area and a fully equipped bathroom with shower.

Outside

The terrace has garden furniture and table ideal for outdoor meals
during the summer period. There is also a barbecue area. From the garden there are uninterrupted views over Caminha, the estuary of the Rivers Minho and Coura, the Portuguese mountains in the East and Spain in the North.
The swimming pool is set on a slightly higher garden level facing the
cottage. The pool is to be shared with other guests if they are staying
in the main house. The size of the pool is 9 by 4.5 metres and the
depth is from 90 cm. to 2.20m.
Guests staying in the cottage are free to share the gardens surrounding
the main house which provide shady places to sit and relax.

Location

Casa do Castanheiro is ideally situated for exploring the Minho region, the Peneda-Geres National Park, the walled town of Valenca and visit Vigo, Baiona and Santiago de Compostela in Spain. Also the Portuguese baroque city of Braga, Guimaraes and Porto with the Portwine cellars. Barcelos helds every Thursday market said to be one of the largest in Europe.
There is a lovely beach only 2 kms away from the property. It is one of the most beautiful in the North Portugal with its pine woods opening onto a long and white sandy coast.
Casa do Castanheiro is situated within walking distance from the ancient fortress town
of Caminha which is almost surrounded by water. Proudly situated opposite
Spain at the mouth of the enchanting River Minho, this town has been inhabited
since Celtic and Roman times.
The old sailing city of Viana do Castelo which is well worth the
visit is about 30 kilometres away. Golf can be played at the Ponte de Lima
course which is approximately 40 kilometres away.
Prices include towels for the pool and the beach, sun shade umbrella and 2 beach chairs.
