We were in Portugal for a wonderful 3 week stay - during our last week we visited Fatima and Alcabaca --- staying one night at Quinta de Alcaidaria-Mor - There were 7 of us (two families) and we had three rooms in the Manor House. We were greeted by the owner and given a tour of the Manour House and the adjoining buildings - chapel - with a little history of the family and the house. Amazing history of the house as it has been with the same family since the 17th century and was given to them by the King. The bedrooms were in the main manor house and were quite comfortable and quaint - all had their own bathrooms and rooms had family antique furniture. The view from our windows were of the beautiful surrounding countryside (a little dry at this time but considering they have had little or no rain for 10 months it was good). The public rooms were beautiful and full of family momentos and historical pieces - quite fascinating. An adjacent building was a large room, well decorated, with a pool table, honor bar, television, music, internet, washrooms and lounge area. Also an adjacent building was the family chapel -- quite lovely. It is situated about 15 min. on country roads from Fatima, not hard to find and since it is in the country quite quiet and peaceful. It could use a little TLC (Tender loving care) in the ground, the pool area and the exterior --- but all in all it is a wonderful place to put on your list to visit. We had breakfast included with our stay and dined in the main family dining room, surrounded with windows, countryside and family pieces. We had a typical breakfast of ham, cheese, home made jams, cereals, fresh fruits and juice, breads and coffee or tea. It is a group meal and a time to meet the other guests, the owner and his mother who joined us for coffee. A very pleasant way to start the day. For dinner we were recommended to eat at a local restaurant called "LOCOMOTIVE" ---- it was exceptional from the room, food and staff -- we opened the restaurant and enjoyed ourselves with wonderful food and wine till closing --- recommended to enjoy. Before we left the area we visited the Convent of Tomar ----Don't miss this spot --- breathtaking convent - you can feel the people and the history --- we will return here again. We enjoyed ourselves here and would like to return when we return to Portugal in future years.

Very pleasant holiday. Nunu made us feel very welcome and could not have been more helpful with suggestions of places to visit restaurants etc. The children spent hours and hours in the pool and had a very enjoyable time. The cottage was a great mix of rustic building yet with ample facilities with a great terrace for eating al fresco. The maid service each day was great bonus, leaving clean towels, making the beds and a quick tidy without being intrusive. Would certainly recommend.
