Portugal Minho villa Mondim Basto Casa Bromela villa Exterior

A restored 17th century Minho manor house near Mondim de Basto in Portugal

Casa Bromela Overview
Once home of the local priests, Casa de Bromela is an excellent example of a 17th century house of The Minho area of north Portugal.

After being empty for over 100 years and the private chapel transferred to the local parish, this house recently came into the ownership of the Pereira family.

It has been lovingly restored and filled with the family furniture and is delightfully decorated.

The result is the superb accommodation that is contained in this villa.

Nearby, there is a Roman bridge and a river beach providing some good swimming.

Accommodation
Casa de Bromela has accommodation for up to 8 people in four bedrooms all of which have en-suite facilities.

A feature of the house is the central courtyard around which the house is built.

The first floor is formally furnished and is not suitable for young children. On this level there is a dining room for ten people together with a large open plan entrance hall with a sitting area.

This floor also has the master bedroom with a four poster double bed and an en suite bathroom. There is also a fully equipped kitchen with a dining table.

On a lower floor there are two bedrooms, one with a double bed and one with twin beds. Both bedrooms have an en-suite shower rooms.

Steps lead down to a TV and games room with a fireplace and sofas which can be used by the younger members of the family.

Outside
Two doors lead into the beautiful garden which features a restored traditional Portuguese espigueiro (corn store).

At the end of the lawn is a swimming pool which is 10 metres by 6 metres and a depth from 1 metre to 2 metres

Location
This house is located near Mondim de Basto and eleven kilometres from Celorico in the valley of the Tamega river. The views give a delightful scenery to start the day.

This region in the Terras de Basto is very fertile that produces a very good Vinho Verde wine.

The regional name of "basto" translates to "I claim" and comes from a group of Celtic statues, symbols of power, which are in a number of places in the locality to mark the boundaries of the land claimed.

There is a riding school two kilometres from the house. There is a restaurant and bar also two kilometres from the house.
